As convenient and protective as automotive window tinting is, the state of Illinois has rules and regulations that vehicle owners must follow in regards to window tinting, especially in the city of Chicago. We at Automotive Aesthetics want to be a reliable window tint film installer for you! Therefore, our window installation team has researched and become familiar with these regulations, breaking them down for you here.
Sedans, trucks, and SUVs have essentially the same regulations with slight variations. Sedan windshields allow for a tint on the windshield’s top 6 inches. All other windows must provide at least 35% visible light transmission. For trucks and SUVs, windshields can also have a tint on the top 6 inches. However, trucks and SUVs must allow at least 50% visible light transmission on the front side windows, while all other windows can use any tint darkness level.
For all vehicles in the state of Illinois, all window tint films must be non-reflective. Reach out to us at Automotive Aesthetics of Chicago, Illinois if you have questions on these regulations or would like more information. You can also contact the Illinois Department of Transportation to get a better understanding about your window tint films.
